- Summary
- The National Aquatic Resource Surveys (NARS) are statistical surveys designed to assess the status of and changes in quality of the nation’s coastal waters, lakes and reservoirs, rivers and streams, and wetlands. Using sample sites selected at random, these surveys provide a snapshot of the overall condition of the nation’s water. Because the surveys use standardized field and lab methods, we can compare results from different parts of the country and between years. SEACAR relevant datasets include: Water quality, sediment quality, benthic community ecology, coastal habitat loss, fish tissue contaminants (WQ in STORET, Benthic downloadable)
- Parameters
- Water column dissolved inorganic nitrogen (mg/L), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (mg/L), chlorophyll a (ug/L), water clarity (light transmissivity, % at 1m), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), sediment toxicity, sediment contaminants, and sediment total organic carbon, benthic community diversity, abundance of pollution-tolerant and pollution-sensitive species, estuarine and marine intertidal wetlands, fish tissue contaminants
- Notes
- Additional data for SEACAR include NCCA 2010 and NCA 99-01,05-06. Relevant datasets include: Benthic Macroinvertebrates; Sediment Chemistry. ....... Instructions to join stations and data: Download the Site Information data file. Each row within the file includes the location (e.g., latitude and longitude coordinates, state, EPA region), sample collection date, and unique identification number (UID) for each sample collected in the survey. Download the data files for the indicators of interest for the same survey. In each of the data files, locate the same UID from the Site Information file to match the data collected and analyzed to the site location of interest. (Note: For surveys 2007 and prior, use the SITE_ID and VISIT_NO to match the data with the site information).
