Summary
A Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) survey was established within the GTM NERR to assess the status of the current population and document trends in population status in response to management activities. Surveys are conducted during late winter/early spring every other year.
Parameters
burrow width (cm), age class, habitat
Notes
Application
Data collected through the Gopher Tortoise burrow surveys help determine the current status of the population and evaluate how the population has changed over time. A key question is to determine if the changes in the population can be linked to ecosystem management activities (prescribed fire).
